🔄 How to duplicate a WhatsApp template to other channels
You don't need to create the same message from scratch for each WhatsApp number your company has. In this guide, we'll teach you how to copy (duplicate) your existing templates to other channels quickly, saving time and keeping all your messages organized.
📋 Before you start
To be able to do this, make sure you meet three simple requirements:
Have Administrator access to your Atom account.
Have at least one extra WhatsApp channel with "Connected" status ready to receive the copy.
The template you want to copy must be of type Blank, Carousel, or Call Permission. (Warning: "Authentication" templates cannot be copied for security reasons).
⚙️ Step by step to duplicate
Step 1: Find your original template
Go to the Templates module in your Atom account and search the list for the message you want to copy.
Note: Remember that the duplicate option will only appear if your template is one of the allowed types.
Step 2: Open the options menu
Click on the three dots icon (⋮) that is in the same row as your template.
Select the Duplicate option from the menu that appears.
⚠️ Attention: If you don't have other WhatsApp channels connected, this option will appear in gray (disabled) and will show you a warning message.
Step 3: Name your new copy
The "Name" field will appear empty. Type the name this new template will have in its new channels.
Warning: When you do this, Atom creates a completely new and independent template. It will copy the text, buttons, and settings, but it will be a new file.
Step 4: Choose where you want to send the copy
A new screen will open for you to select the destination channels.
Click on the "Select channels" field and choose one or more WhatsApp numbers.
The system will only show you channels that are WhatsApp and that are properly connected.
Tip: The channel where you created the original template will appear marked with an information icon so you don't get confused.
Step 5: Confirm the duplication
Read the warning on the screen. It reminds you that: "When duplicating the template to other channels, it will be published again and will go through a new review by Meta (the owners of WhatsApp)."
Click the Duplicate button to confirm and wait for the system to load.
Step 6: Verify that everything worked correctly
Atom will show you a message confirming that the templates have been copied successfully.
Each new copy will start with Pending status until Meta approves it.
Since these are new templates, they will start "from scratch", meaning they won't copy the sending or reading statistics from the original template.
🚨 Common troubleshooting
❓ The "Duplicate" option doesn't appear in the three dots This happens if your template is of the "Authentication" type (which cannot be copied) or if you don't have Administrator permissions on the platform.
❓ The list to choose channels is empty or won't let me click Check that you really do have other WhatsApp channels with "Connected" status. Channels that have been deleted or disconnected will not appear here.
❓ I copied the template, but Meta rejected it (appears with error) This is normal and doesn't depend on Atom. Each time you copy a template, Meta conducts a completely new review. Check that your text doesn't break any WhatsApp Business rules and edit the message if necessary.
➡️ Next steps
Now that you've successfully duplicated your messages, you can:
Check if Meta has already approved them directly in the Templates module.
Edit some small details of the text before Meta finishes reviewing it.
Create a new mass campaign using this template in your new channel.
Work smarter, not harder! 🚀
Duplicating your WhatsApp templates is the fastest way to maintain the same tone and quality of service across all your business numbers. Just remember to give your copies easy-to-identify names and wait for Meta's green light before starting to send your campaigns. Let's get to work! ✅
