How to add links in campaigns and flows?

Learn how to include web links correctly in your Atom flows and WhatsApp campaigns. Discover the differences between placing links in text or in template buttons, and learn best practices to ensure proper display.

In Atom you can include links in your conversational flows, but it is important to understand in what context it is allowed and how the end user visualizes that content, especially in campaigns and channels like WhatsApp.

✅ Where can links be included?

There are two main ways to add hyperlinks in your strategy:

  • As plain text within the body of a Message component in Flowbuilder.

  • As an interactive button, exclusively in WhatsApp Official Templates.

🧭 Links in Campaign flows (Flowbuilder)

Important: In Flowbuilder components (such as interactive messages), it is not possible to configure a button to open a web link directly.

If you are building a flow, the correct structure to drive traffic is as follows:

  1. Create a message with buttons with common options.

  2. The customer must first select one of the available buttons.

  3. Connect that button to a Message component that contains the URL written directly in the text.

🧪 Practical example:

  • Button that the user sees: "I want information"

  • Next message in the flow: "Thank you for your interest! You can complete the form by clicking here 👉 https://atomchat.io/formulario"

📲 Where CAN I use buttons with links?

You can include interactive buttons that open links only in WhatsApp Official Templates (HSM).

  • Configuration path: Go to Settings > Messaging > Templates.

  • When creating your template, you can define "Call to Action" buttons with options such as:

    • Open a link (external URL).

    • Call a phone number.

💡 These templates are ideal as the initial message of your outbound campaign, ensuring that the user has a direct button to your website from the first contact.

👁️ Display considerations on WhatsApp

How the message appears on your customer's phone depends on how you configure it:

  • Preview: WhatsApp will generate a card with a preview of the link (image and title) if the domain is public and the website is properly configured.

  • Shorteners: If you use shortened links like bit.ly, it is very likely that the preview will not be generated, showing only the blue text.

  • Link position: Avoid placing the link as the first word of your message, as this can break or affect the preview loading.

📌 Final best practices

  • ✔️ In Flowbuilder, always place links as text in the body of the message, do not try to force them inside the button.

  • ✔️ Use official templates if you strictly need to send a button with a link at the beginning of the conversation.

  • ✔️ Give context to the user: keep the message short, clear and preceded by an explanation before showing the link.

  • ✔️ Always perform an internal test by sending the campaign to a test number to ensure that the link works and displays correctly.
